Church Ministries

Leadership Team

The Leadership Team assures the congregation’s mission and vision are fulfilled by encouraging the development of new ministries and by evaluating existing ministries. The team is accountable to the Congregational Forum.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Caregiving

The Caregiving Ministry Team’s central interest is the spiritual, physical and emotional well-being of the church family. Duties include identifying ordained ministers from the church body to serve the pastor or pastoral team as ministers of visitation.

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:12-13

Faith Formation

The Faith Formation Ministry Team provides opportunities and resources for formal study in Christian education. Duties include educating visitors about Brethren beliefs and values and to encourage them to consider church membership.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”

Fellowship & Hospitality

The Fellowship & Hospitality Ministry Team assists in creating a hospitable environment where strangers are welcomed and new people are assimilated into the life of the church. Duties include developing plans and securing leadership for special interest groups.

“And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Ephesians 5:2

Gifts Assessment & Development

The Gifts Assessment & Development Team is responsible for developing a process for discerning spiritual gifts of all congregation members. Duties include seeking appropriate ways to use those gifts for the ministry and mission of the church.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

1 Peter 4:10-11

Good Beginnings Preschool

Good Beginnings Preschool is a private non-profit preschool licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Teachers use the Get Set for School Curriculum, a nationally recognized program focused on social/emotional development, kindergarten readiness and motor skills.

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”

Mack Kids

Mack Kids is a ministry program sponsored by the McPherson Church of the Brethren for students enrolled in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Children are introduced to the Christian faith through music, art, lessons and play.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Open Door

The Open Door Team is dedicated to helping the McPherson Church of the Brethren become more visible in the local community. Their message states, “All have a seat at God’s inclusive table, a safe place where spiritual stories find voice.”

“He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

Outreach

The Outreach Ministry Team provides education and activities that will engage the congregation with peace and justice issues. Duties include serving the local, regional, national and global community as opportunities are identified.

“And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

Hebrews 13:16

Properties

The Properties Ministry Team supervises the care, maintenance and development of church property. Duties include consulting with the Leadership Team to hire and supervise church custodians.

“The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock.”

Stewardship & Finance

The Stewardship and Finance Ministry Team educates and encourages members to be good stewards of their resources and encourages Christian giving. Duties include building the annual budget, managing outreach giving and tracking pledges.

“Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest.”

Proverbs 3:9

Worship

The Worship Ministry Team consults with pastoral leadership and plans varied corporate worship experiences. Duties include guiding music ministry, planning for seasonal or historical events and securing worship participants.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”

Youth Ministries

The Youth Ministry Team provides programming for middle school and high school youth including regular youth meetings and activities. Duties include managing youth fundraising efforts and encouraging youth participation in denominational opportunities.

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
