Call to Worship | Daniel Bowen
Inspired by Matthew 7:24 | written by Becky Ullom-Naugle

One: It’s hard to give our full attention sometimes. Our minds wander and our energy is elsewhere.
All: Come.
One: School. Work. Chores. Friends. Family. Responsibilities. We are busy and often distracted people; yet, we have come today.
All: Come. Listen.
One: We have come today, ready to listen for the Holy Spirit.
All: Come. Listen. Remember.
Come: The Holy Spirit will remind us that we belong to God.
All: Come. Listen. Remember. Build.
One: Because we belong to God, we will build our lives wisely on the solid rock of Jesus’ teachings.
All: We belong to God! We will build our lives wisely on the solid rock of Jesus’ teachings!

Scripture Jam | “Build Wisely” | Junior High Students
Based on Matthew 7 | written by Erika Clary

Voice 1: Hear these words.
Voice 2: THESE words.
Voice 1: Jesus said the wise person built their house on the rock.
Voice 2: How firm a foundation!
Voice 1: The house built on the rock didn’t fall.
Voice 2: There was rain.
Voice 1: The streams rose.
Voice 2: Crazy winds blew and tried…
Voice 1: Really tried!
Voice 2: To knock down that house.
Voice 1: But it wouldn’t fall.
Voice 2: No way!
Voice 1: What about the person who built their house on the sand?
Voice 2: What a fool!
Voice 1: Yeah, that’s literally what the scripture says.
Voice 2: That house stood no chance.
Voice 1: There was rain.
Voice 2: The streams rose.
Voice 1: Crazy winds blew and…
Voice 2: The wind succeeded that time!
Voice 1: The house came tumbling down.
Voice 2: So, what was the difference?
Voice 1: Why does this matter?
Voice 2: We aren’t talking about actual houses, are we?
Voice 1: Nope.
Voice 2: Jesus told us that hearing his teachings and actually acting upon them is like building a house on the rock.
Voice 1: His teachings?
Voice 2: That’s what I said.
Voice 1: When Jesus says to love our neighbor…
Voice 2: We love.
Voice 1: When he says to serve the least of these?
Voice 2: We serve.
Voice 1: And when he says to wash feet?
Voice 2: We wash feet.
Voice 1: Hearing Jesus’ teachings and not acting…
Voice 2: …is foolish. Just like building a house on sand.
Voice 1: We must listen…
Voice 2: …and learn from Jesus’ teachings.
Voice 1: And act on them.
Voice 2: We build our foundation on the rock.
Voice 1: On Jesus’ teachings.
Voice 2: How firm a foundation!
Voice 1: When Jesus says to build wisely…
Both Voices: We build wisely!
