The Life and Teachings of Jesus is the topic for the intergenerational Inquirers Class that meets in the Church Social Room during the Sunday school hour. Our text is Gospel Records of the Message and Mission of Jesus Christ, a harmony of the Gospels by Albert Cassel Weiand, founder of Bethany Seminary. We still have a few books left. – Florence Crago

Water Fun is planned for the Opening Night of Kingdom Kids which will held from 6-7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15. Appropriate clothes for water play are suggested. Adults who will be serving as leaders this year are: Sarah Hendricks, Coordinator; Michele McMillan and LeAnna Ullom, Preschool – Kindergarten; Heidi Risser and Kathryn Whitacre, 1st – 3rd grade; Alan Wagoner and Daisy Friesen, 4th – 5th grade.

Are you willing to help prepare food and/or offer your home to host Brethren college students and their friends once a month? The first meal for this school year will follow the worship service next Sunday, September 19, at the home of Tom and Jan Hurst, 1315 E. Euclid. Approximately 15-20 students usually attend these gatherings.

Plans for the publication of a cookbook to benefit Projects Unlimited are underway by Western Plains District. Information is available in the Church Office or on the church website (

Help Save the Planet! Earth Day Tip #21, shared by the Philo Class: Shop close to home this week. Try to make all of your purchases from local stores or vendors rather than from far away locations or vendors that are not connected to your community.

McPherson College seniors Rebecca Grosbach and Jon Neher will be honored at a graduation reception today, following McPherson College Commencement. The church family is invited to join them at The North Cedars Down Under Room, 1225½ Darlow Drive.

Two members of the Church History Book Project Group will be at a table in the Good Shepherd Foyer today and again on May 30, June 6, and June 13, for the purpose of collecting from those who want to buy a copy (or copies) of the book. Cost is $14.00 per book, including the supplemental computer disc. Write your check to “McPherson Church of the Brethren” with “History Book” on the memo line. Publication is scheduled for August. Thank you.

The House for Haiti Project has received $3,995 of the $6,000 needed to build a 3-room home. Sending the funds to Haiti helps stimulate their economy, since Brethren Disaster Ministries buys local materials and hires local people to build the house. Thanks to all who’ve contributed so far. Camp forms due soon

Here’s a reminder about turning in church camp forms in the coming weeks:

Forms for Camp Mt. Hermon Junior High (7-8) Camp, and Camp Colorado Senior High and Junior (5-6) Camps should be in the church office already, in order to have time to add health statements that are still valid and on file from last year, as well as cut checks for the congregation’s portion of registration fees.

Forms for Camp Mt. Hermon Senior High and Junior (5-6) Camps, and Camp Colorado Junior High (7-8) Camp are due in the church office on Sunday, May 16.

Forms for Camp Mt. Hermon Pre-Junior (3-4) and Come-Along-With-Me (K-2) Camps, and Camp Colorado Pre-Junior (3-4) Camp are due in the church on Sunday, May 23.

Also, persons needing transportation to and/or from Camp Colorado should also register with the church office before May 23, or by contacting  Registration costs are $90 round trip; $45 one way.  After May 23, spots will be made available on a first-come/first-served basis until remaining spots are filled.

Checks for camp registration costs should be made directly to the camps: Camp Mt. Hermon or Camp Colorado.
Checks for Camp Colorado transportation should be made to: McPherson CoB Youth.

Camp staff transportation

Persons who are volunteering on the staff of Camp Colorado, and who would like to use the transportation offered the Youth Group are advised that they also need to register by May 23 to be guaranteed a spot “in the van”.  Contact for more information.

In the past, we have not charged individuals/camp volunteers for the ride to camp.  However if that staff person is eligible for travel reimbursement from the camp because of their volunteer position, staff are asked to request that reimbursement and sign that reimbursement check over to the Youth Group.  This helps defray the costs of providing this transportation to Camp Colorado, costs that are mostly covered by camp participants themselves (except in tough years when the Youth Team covers any deficit).
