Gracious and eternal God, we thank you

for the bonds of love we share within your church.

We thank you for Jesus Christ, who has joined us into one living body.

Enable us, by your Spirit, to walk together in unity of love and purpose,

Prayer Song    “Help Us to Help Each Other”    #362

Prayer of Confession    (inspired by John 17)

Forgive us, O God;

when we treat people as though they are just a nuisance

when we are annoyed with others’ behavior

when people unexpectedly assert themselves and disquiet us

when we find it difficult to include those who think or act differently from our norm

when we are cruel in our judgements or exclusions

Forgive us, O God, when we do not hear or heed Jesus’ prayer for unity.

Forgive those who exploit others for profit.

Help us to seek justice for those who experience exploitation and helplessness.

Open our eyes to any ways in which we can encourage righteousness.    AMEN

from the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand (adapted)

Scripture Focus    John 17: 20-26 (New International Version – NIV)

20 “My prayer is not for [these disciples] alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one. [Creator God], just as you are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

24 “[Creator, God], I want those you have given me – to be with me where I am, and [I want them] to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

25 “Righteous [Holy One], though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.

26 I have made you[a] known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

Message    “That we May all be One”    Jerry Bowen

Jonathan Frye Presentation — Monday, June 3, 2019

Posted May 30th, 2019

All are welcome!

Monday, June 3 at 7:00 p.m.

Monitor Church of the Brethren

6th and Frontier, McPherson

“The Science of Human Sexuality”

McPherson College natural science professor and Monitor Church of the Brethren deacon Jonathan Frye, PhD will share the current scientific understanding of how sexuality is manifested in all of creation, with a special emphasis on human sexuality, human development, sex, gender, and definitions of technical terms that are commonly used and often misunderstood. Come with the assurance that there is no such thing as a “dumb” question! Jonathan has previously shared this well-received presentation at the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference and National Youth Conference as well as with several congregations.

Hosted by Women’s Fellowship, but anyone can come so invite a friend!

The content is suitable for all ages but would probably be boring to children under 12, so childcare will be provided.

Light refreshments and an opportunity for further discussion will follow the presentation in the sanctuary.

Questions? Contact co-pastor Leslie Frye at leslie.a.b.frye@gmail.com or 620-755-3940.
