Faith Formation Team has been tasked with the sacred duty of protecting every child and youth that comes through our doors. In service of that goal, we are proposing an initiative where every volunteer that works with children, shall undergo a background check to ensure their safety and our integrity as a congregation. In light of the current news that has brought to light the abuse scandals in both the Catholic Church as well as the Southern Baptist convention, we believe that it behooves us as a congregation to act decisively. A part of this action is ensuring the safety of those most vulnerable. We are so grateful for this congregation’s commitment to growing the hearts and minds of our children and ensuring that they have a safe place to grow and explore their faith. Thank you so much for being supportive of this as we continue to explore best practices. – Suzee Shugart, Chair

McPherson College

2019 Passion Giving

McPherson College and McPherson Church of the Brethren have enjoyed a relationship that has been mutually beneficial for more than 120 years. Over the years the church has brought many people to McPherson, providing students and faculty for the college, given financial support, and greatly influenced philosophical thought. At the same time, the college helped develop church leadership, and provided a high number of graduates who have gone into Christian ministry. The college has offered intellectual criticism and has given major intellectual stature to the concept of service, which continues to be a core concept in both the church and college today. Yet there are other more informal relationships that benefit both the college and church. Did you know that the church uses warm water from Dotzour Hall to fill its baptistery (and it takes five hours for each filling)? The church hosted three alumni reunions this past Homecoming with about 50 alumni attending. The college also offers several concerts through the year at the church traditionally around Christmas, commencement, and Homecoming. The college’s devotion to its mission of scholarship, participation, and service is strengthened through its partnership with the Church.
