Gathering Music

Sharing Time
….a time of greeting and sharing those things which inform who we are as a community of faith and how God is moving among us. You are invited to welcome visitors, share joys, prayer requests, and announcements.

Focusing Music    “O God of Light”    – arr. L Smith

*Prayer of Intercession  (inspired by 2 Corinthians 5:16-21)

One:

Reconciling Christ, bless our efforts to bring about reconciliation.

Give us the strength to persevere without counting the hurts,

and to find within ourselves the capacity to keep on loving.

All:

Give us the grace to be able to stand in the middle of situations,

and to be a conduit for the deep listening which can lead

to healing and forgiveness.

One:

Help us to conduct ourselves with dignity, giving and expecting respect,

moving from prayer to action, and from action back again into prayer.

All:

Grant that we may be so grounded in your love, that our security is not

threatened if we change our minds, or begin to see a better way to act.

One:

less those who are called to reconcile on a large-scale – politicians, world

leaders, leaders of business, and those who stand in the midst of bitter conflict.

All:

Reconciling Christ, bless us and bless all who engage in the sacred work

of envisioning new wholeness, and bringing people and nations together.

– written by Ann Siddall

New Life in Christ

I Appeal to you therefore brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your

bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God,

which is your spiritual worship.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds,

so that you may discern what is the will of God –

what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Marks of the True Christian

Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good;

love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor.

Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.

Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty,

but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.

If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written,

“Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

No, “if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink;

for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Prayer of God’s People    Prayer for Peace    – written by Sister Joan Chittister, Benedictine Sister of Erie

Message     ~ Annual Conference Preacher ~

after an intentional pause – please rise for the Sending Song

*Sending Song    “Gracious Spirit, Dwell With Me”    #507

*Sending Words

When others experience our community of faith – hear our words and see our deeds –

may they come to learn about Christian love of enemies.

May they encounter – the God of love – living among us.

– excerpt from a litany by Susan Mark Landis

*Sending Music    “Stand Up for Jesus”    – arr. Franklin Ritter

Proclaim Christ, Reclaim Passion – 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
“So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:

everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!

All this is from God, who reconciled us to the Godself through Christ,

and has given us the ministry of reconciliation…”
