*Call to Worship

ONE:

It is time for a change. We are in need of a glimpse of Jesus who is the way through the mix and mess of this life.

ALL:

It is time for a change. We are in need of a glimpse of Jesus who is the truth – the truth that love is stronger than hate; peace is possible; and life can emerge even in the midst of devastation.

ONE:

We are in need of a glimpse of Jesus who is the life; inviting us to follow in his footsteps as he trod the way of love and justice, as he lived out his faith.

ALL:

May we be drawn to the rhythm of Lent as it unfolds in our midst; a sacred invitation to explore the corners of our soul. May we be open to God’s light that we might see ourselves clearly, with all our fears and faults and faith, with all our desires, dreams and duties.

ONE:

It is time for a change. Let us enter into worship.  Let us meet God – in the Holy Light.

MCPHERSON COLLEGE

2019 Passion Giving

Student Health Center

Navigating the complexities of health care can be confusing; particularly for college students who may be dealing with a health crisis alone for the first time. McPherson College will make it easier for its students to access health care and counseling resources on campus with a new student health center that will open in the fall of 2019. Construction on the new facility began in December when property was cleared on Gordon Street across from Morrison and Metzler residence halls. In 2014, the college responded to students’ concern over the need for on-campus health services by contracting with Partners In Family Care to provide physical health services to campus. Based in Moundridge, the practice is run in part by MC alumni Drs. Paul and Marla Ullom-Minnich. The college also works with Client-Centered Counseling, owned by another MC alumna, Linda Helmer, to provide counseling services on campus. Both services are highly utilized by students. Student fees include unlimited health care office visits for full-time students, as well as four visits with the counseling office at no charge. Taking away barriers like cost, inconvenience and office hours allows McPherson College to provide the most comprehensive health and counseling services among colleges of its size in the state.

 Ash Wednesday Activities

McPherson College invites you to participate in their Ash Wednesday activities on Wednesday, March 6. Ash Wednesday is a Christian holy day of prayer, fasting, and repentance observed 40 days (excluding Sundays) before Easter. It ushers in the season of Lent, a time for reflection and recommitment to faith. The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship, and is a powerful way to experience the call to repentance and reconciliation. Please join Spiritual Life at either 8 a.m. or 12 p.m. for a short service (10 minutes) to be held in Friendship Hall, outside Brown Auditorium. All are invited. We will offer opportunity for crosses of ash on either the forehead or hand, or a simple blessing if you prefer.

From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. a space for guided reflection will be set up in the basement of Miller Library on the south side (the “Maker’s Space”). There are several interactive stations (i.e. touch, taste, write) at which you may reflect as long or as little as you desire. Specific instructions will be provided.

The Annual Food Drive for the McPherson County Food Bank is a project of the Outreach Team. Donations will be collected from Sunday, March 3 through Sunday, March 31. Items (canned and non-perishable foods, listed below) or money donations, may be left in a grocery cart in the Church Good Shepherd Foyer or in a storage container in the Education Building.
