Upcoming Events — Dyck Arboretum of the Plains, Hesston

Everyone is invited to attend this year’s Winter Luminary Walk, “The Prairie Sleeps”  at Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston.  The Luminary Walk will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on November 23, 24 & 30, and December 1.  Admission to the event is $6 for Adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 15, or advanced tickets can be purchased at dyckarboretum.org or at the Arboretum office for $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 3 to 12.

Traditional outdoor highlights include the walking path lit up by hundreds of luminaries, a nativity scene in the leaf house, and roasting marshmallows at the fire pits. Performances by local groups will include Lindsborg harpist RoJean Loucks at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 23 and Saturday, November 24, Bethel College Academy of Performing Arts Dance Troupe at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 30. On December 1st, the Hesston College instrumental ensembles will play at 6:30 p.m. and the Hesston College choir will do a carol sing at 7:15 p.m.

Saturday, December 1 is also FAMILY NIGHT, with free admission for accompanied children ages 12 and under, face painting, crafts and hay rack rides.  Volunteers are also still needed!  Call 620-327-8127 or visit www.dyckarboretum.org for more information.

The third concert of the 2018-19 Prairie Window Concert Series, featuring Lindsay Lou, will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, at the Dyck Arboretum in Hesston.  You are invited to an evening of great music and good food in a prairie garden setting. 40th Annual Community Christmas Carol-Along

Save the date! The carol-along is planned for 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, at the McPherson Opera House. The “Come and Go” event will feature guest musicians and audience participation. Everyone is invited. Mark your calendars!

Alternative Christmas Gift Market — Saturday, November 10, 2018

Kick off your Christmas shopping at the 14th annual Alternative Christmas Gift Market, planned for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, at The Cedars Conference Center. Charities benefiting people in need will provide opportunities for giving Christmas gifts that make a difference, donations in honor of your loved ones. Fair Trade items will be available for purchase. Eighteen booths representing Heifer, Brethren Disaster Ministries, On Earth Peace, and The Cedars Resident Assistance Fund as well as other local charities such as STEP MC and the Omega House will greet and inform you. Lucy Bowman will again be raising money for the Malala Fund and Paul Ullom-Minnich will be promoting the Haiti Water Project initiative. As an added service, we will accept credit cards this year. Come enjoy the refreshments and fellowship, and help make our market a success.
