Welcome to Worship at the McPherson Church of the Brethren
We invite your active participation in the life of this congregation, as together we continue to grow in grace and seek justice for God’s creation.
The McPherson Church of the Brethren Leadership Team approved unanimously to open the church building to all functions with masks being
optional at the discretion of each individual beginning March 6, 2022.

Sunday, March 6, 2022 | First Sunday of Lent | “Waiting for the Light”

Sometimes darkness seems to last forever. We gaze toward the horizon for any gleams of light, rays of hope.
This is the nature of Lent, a season . . . given to wilderness wandering and discernment, prayer and preparation . . .
embrace the journey, but keep an eye on the horizon. The light is coming. Walt Wiltschek

Ellen Gilbert, piano

Sharing Joys and Concerns | LeRoy Weddle

Opening Words inspired by Psalm 91 | Joanna Harader
Even as we enter the wilderness of Lent, we rest in the shelter of the Most High.
We abide in the shadow of the Almighty; we find refuge under the wings of our Holy Parent.
We trust the angels of God – the words of God – the people of God. The hands of God; will bear us up.
And so we come to call on God who has promised to answer.

Opening Song | “With One Voice” | Ricky Manalo
Ellen Gilbert, Dawn Hoffman & Carol Ward (vocals); Dan Masterson (piano); Marta Moorman (guitar)

Worship Team recommended and Leadership Team unanimously approved the use of a “signature song” to emphasis the
McPherson Church of the Brethren Jesus in the Neighborhood Strategic Plan. We will be learning this song with the help of
the Worship Band, solo voices and congregational singing. It was first introduced to us in worship on February 6 and we invite
you to join in the chorus as we lift our voices again on Sunday, March 6.

Verse 1
Take the Word and go out to every land. Shine the light of Christ for all to see.
May the lives of those we touch sing praise to God above.
Let us sing, we’ll sing . . .

Refrain
With one voice we’ll pass the Word along. With one voice, bring justice to the world.
And with all the angels, we’ll spread the goodness of God.
With all power and glory the Word of God shall reign.

Verse 2
Take the Word to our neighborhoods and streets. Shine the light of Christ for all to see.
May we all set out to live in peace and harmony?
They will see and sing . . . Refrain

Verse 3
Take the Word to the people in despair. Shine the light of Christ for all to see
May our actions and our deeds bring comfort to their needs.
And they’ll know and sing . . . Refrain

Verse 4
Take the Word to the nations everywhere. Shine the light of Christ for all to see.
May the witness of our lives transform the world anew?
And we’ll shine, we’ll shine . . . Refrain . . . Refrain (extended)
