Scripture | Luke 22: 1-13 | The Plot to Kill, Preparation of Passover

The Plot to Kill Jesus
The festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was near.
The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put Jesus to death, because they were afraid.
Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve: went away and conferred with the chief priests and
officers of the temple police – about how he might betray Jesus to them.
They were greatly pleased and agreed to give him money.
Judas consented and began to look for an opportunity to betray Jesus.

The Preparation of the Passover
The day of Unleavened Bread arrived – the day on which the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed.
Jesus sent Peter and John, saying,
“Go and prepare the Passover meal for us that we may eat it.
There is a large room in the upstairs of a house. Make preparations for us there.”
So they went and found everything as Jesus had told them; and they prepared the Passover meal.

Scripture Song | “An Upper Room Did Our Lord Prepare”
1. An upper room did our Lord prepare for those he loved until the end;
and his disciples still gather there to celebrate their risen friend.
2. A lasting gift Jesus gave his own: to share his bread, his loving cup.
Whatever burdens may bow us down, he by his cross shall lift us up.
3. And after supper he washed their feet, for service, too, is sacrament.
In Christ our joy shall be made complete: sent out to serve, as he was sent.
4. No end there is! We depart in peace, he loves beyond the uttermost:
in every room in our Father’s house Christ will be there, as Lord and Host.

Scripture | John 13:1-17 | Jesus Washes the Disciples Feet

Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet
During supper Jesus, got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself.
Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him,
“Lord, are you going to wash my feet? Not my feet only but also my hands and my head?!”
Jesus said to him,
“One who has bathed does not need to wash, except for the feet, but is entirely clean.”
Jesus said,
“Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.”

“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you.
Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he said,
“Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I tell you that from now on I will not
drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke
it and gave it to them, saying,
“This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying,
“This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”
