Focusing Music

Invitation to Worship | “A Lenten Meditation” | Louis Lefebure-Wely

Scripture Focus | Genesis 12: 1-4a
Now God said to Abram,
“Go from your country and your kindred and your father Tērah’s,
house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation,
and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a
blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you
I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
So Abram went, as God told him; and his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot,
went with him.

*Call to Worship (inspired by Genesis 12: 1-4)
We are met in the presence of God
and we do not meet alone.
With Abram and Sarai
we gather to worship God.
With the saints of every age
we gather to worship God.
We embark on our own journey of faith
in the wilderness and in our everyday lives.
We journey in the presence of God,
and we do not journey alone.

Giving Prayer

Worship Choir | “Psalm of Life” | arr. Peter Amidon
An optimistic view of life; this life is precious, we should not waste it.
– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Tell me not in mournful numbers, life is but an empty dream,
for the soul is dead that slumbers, and things are not what they seem.
Refrain:
Life is real, life is earnest, and the grave is not its goal.
Dust thou art to dust returnest was not spoken of the soul.

Lives of great ones all remind us we can make our lives sublime,
and, departing, leave behind us footprints on the sands of time. (Refrain)
Let us then be up and doing with a heart for any fate;
still achieving, still pursuing, learn to labor and to wait. (Refrain)
Tell me not in mournful numbers, life is but an empty dream,
for the soul is dead that slumbers, and things are not what they seem.
