Invitation to Give
ONE: How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses to help? (1 John 3:17)
ALL: To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than offerings and sacrifice. (Proverbs 21:3)
ONE: For I desire mercy, not sacrifices. I want you to know me rather than just give offerings. (Hosea 6:6)
ALL: See, I have set before you this day, life & death, blessings & curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live! (Deuteronomy 30:19)
ONE: Come, you who have chosen life, take your inheritance! For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. (Matthew 25:34-40)
ALL: When did we see you hungry, or thirsty? When did we see you as a stranger or sick or in prison and show you hospitality?
ONE: What you have done to the least of your brothers or sisters, you have done to me as well.
ALL: What is the Lord asking of me this morning? What is it that our God is calling me to be or to do?
ONE: For God has shown you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you? But to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)
