Information for the Congregation for Sunday, September 9, 2018

Posted September 7th, 2018

Would you like to become a member? Would you like to dedicate your child(ren)? To initiate a conversation, express your intent or to ask questions, contact:  Pastors Chris, Jerry, or Kathryn, through the Church Office (620-241-1109).

Think generously. Practice generosity. And do so courageously.

For generations the rules of polite company have included, “No conversations about religion, politics, or money.” There can be no doubt – it takes courage to talk about money! The Bible addresses the subject of money, wealth, property, and related derivatives so often (perhaps as many as 2,500 times) that it seems a bit strange for some to have such an aversion to the topic. There are two different courageous conversations with regard to our fiscal resources. The first is about our relationship with money and the second is about asking for money.

Roger and Carolyn Schrock will be presenting pictures and interesting stories about their recent work in South Sudan. South Sudan is the newest nation in the world. The presentation is planned for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11,at The Cedars Wellness Center. After 28 years, Roger and Carolyn returned to Torit, South Sudan and they saw and experienced many changes. They planned, planted, pushed out vehicles, preached, renewed friendships and worked on development issues. Everyone is welcome; you are encouraged to invite friends from your neighborhood to come with you.

Becky Goss, President and CEO of the McPherson County Community Foundation, and local church member, provided a presentation at our last carry-in dinner. The topic was “End of Life Planning and Endowment Giving.” The session included questions and answers pertaining to the importance of estate planning and making gifts to endowments at the Foundation to benefit our church, and also directly to our own church endowment funds.  Becky will be available to visit and answer your questions from 6 – 7 p.m., this Wednesday, September 12, in the Church Social Room.
