The Ridiculous Journey: Following a Nobody from Nowhere

A search for purpose and meaning in the events and choices of our lives. A costly journey with an unknown destination. A Middle Eastern homeless man from twenty centuries ago and why he still stirs the souls and imagination of so many. This 6-session series on Jesus’ invitation to follow him includes films by Nadia Bolz-Weber, Greg Boyle, Brene Brown, Emmanuel Katongole, Rachel Held Evans, Richard Rohr, and Rowan Williams, visual liturgies from Kelly Stewart Hall, Thomas Merton, Travis Reed, and Ann Voscamp and reflections by Rich Nelson.

Days of Awe and Wonder – How to Be A Christian in the 21st Century, by Marcus Borg.  “His life and work led him to rediscover the heart of Christianity.” He makes us want to think about what it means to be a Christian in the twenty-first century.

Registration for National Youth Conference (NYC) opens on January 18. All senior high youth are encouraged to register online at Cost is only $100, which covers transportation costs! The church will pay the $500 registration fee if youth complete required service hours. See Pastor Jerry Bowen for details. Make your check payable to “McPherson Church of the Brethren” with “NYC Deposit” in the memo line. All payments should be sent to the McPherson Church of the Brethren, 200 N. Carrie, McPherson, KS 67460. NYC is scheduled for July 21-26 in Ft. Collins, Colo.

Ventures in Discipleship, McPherson College – The course offering for January will be “Congregation in Mission.” The class will be held online, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (CST), Saturday, January 20. Jim Tomlonson, retired Church of the Brethren pastor, district executive and teacher, will be teaching. Classes are donation-based and continuing education credit is available at $10 per course.
