Junior Highs to hold local/mini-workcamp in November

Posted August 20th, 2010

Last Spring there were fifteen Junior High Youth who wanted to attend a workcamp, but because of fundraising for National Youth Conference and too few advisors to accompany them, that did not work out. Instead, this year they will plan their own workcamp experience for the summer of 2011, learning about why to participate in a workcamp and thinking about the kinds of projects they can do and where they might do them.

In preparation, they will participate in a local/mini-workcamp during the month of November. They will do local service projects and spend more time working on their summer workcamp plans. To this end, they are looking for some worthwhile project ideas. They have already approached the Properties Team about some things that could be done around the church building, but they’d also be interested in hearing ideas of some projects to do in the community. Know of someone who could use some help in their yard in mid-November? Let us know. Aware of a special project that could use some extra hands in mid-November? Let us know.

Contact Pastor Shawn at shawn@macbrethren.org or 620-241-1109 with your ideas. Thanks!

Thank you from Kristen Hoffman

Dear Church Family,

Thank you for being willing to share your stories, time and money with me and the rest of the youth and make it possible for us to have unbelievable church camp and National Youth Conference experiences! The worship services at both places were my highlight and at National Youth Conference, I also had the opportunity to talk to and hang out with some of my past workcamp friends, as well as meet new people, and make unforgettable memories. Once again, thank you so much for the ways that you help to support the youth. Thanks!

Thanks to Youth Sunday volunteers

Posted May 15th, 2010

The youth group would like to express its appreciation to the congregation’s A/V Crew for their assistance during Youth Sunday Worship on May 9.  That Worship often has some technically challenging elements, and we appreciate their help.  This would include Andy Ullom, Rick Tyler, and Chris Whitacre.  Thank you!

The youth group would also like to say thanks to Becky Snell and Dan Masterson who provided musical leadership for the congregational singing during Youth Sunday.  Thanks, Becky and Dan!

Thank you for cookie deliveries

Thank you to Bonnie and Dave Fruth, John and Maxine Miller, and Miriam Hoover who provided cookies to deliver to the nearly 80 McPherson and Central Christian College students who have agreed to have contact with our congregation during this year.  The Senior High Youth have packaged those and they are being delivered before exams with a note attached thanking the students for their presence in McPherson, and to stay in touch with our congregation over the summer via our website, on Facebook, or by text messages.  We also expressed our hope to see them again next Fall.

This year cookies have been delivered to these college students on four different occasions, each time packaged by either the Junior or Senior High youth.  That’s nearly 1600 cookies!  Thanks to the congregation for their cookie donations to support these college students, and for supporting this service project of the youth group.

Camp forms due soon

Posted May 15th, 2010

Here’s a reminder about turning in church camp forms in the coming weeks:

Forms for Camp Mt. Hermon Junior High (7-8) Camp, and Camp Colorado Senior High and Junior (5-6) Camps should be in the church office already, in order to have time to add health statements that are still valid and on file from last year, as well as cut checks for the congregation’s portion of registration fees.

Forms for Camp Mt. Hermon Senior High and Junior (5-6) Camps, and Camp Colorado Junior High (7-8) Camp are due in the church office on Sunday, May 16.

Forms for Camp Mt. Hermon Pre-Junior (3-4) and Come-Along-With-Me (K-2) Camps, and Camp Colorado Pre-Junior (3-4) Camp are due in the church on Sunday, May 23.

Also, persons needing transportation to and/or from Camp Colorado should also register with the church office before May 23, or by contacting shawn.replogle@sbcglobal.net.  Registration costs are $90 round trip; $45 one way.  After May 23, spots will be made available on a first-come/first-served basis until remaining spots are filled.

Checks for camp registration costs should be made directly to the camps: Camp Mt. Hermon or Camp Colorado.
Checks for Camp Colorado transportation should be made to: McPherson CoB Youth.

Thanks!  See you at camp!
