“Every War Has Two Losers: a Poet’s Meditation on Peace” tells the story of William Stafford, who served as a conscientious objector during World War II. The program will be aired on KPTS Channel 8 at 10:30 p.m. today.

Women’s Ministries Fall Event is set for 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, in the Church Social Room. The program will feature STEPMC (Steps to Ending Poverty in McPherson County). The evening will also include dessert, fellowship, and routine business. Women are asked to consider a $5 donation toward the cost of the 2010-2011 Women’s Ministries booklet. For questions or to request childcare, contact Barbara Flory (241-1056).

The church’s 125th anniversary celebration will conclude with a service of music on Sunday, October 31. At the close of the service, former choir members and others who enjoy singing will be invited to come forward to sing “Christians, We Have Met to Worship” with the current choir. Anyone who wishes to participate should see Winona Godfrey for a copy of the music.

The 5th annual Alternative Christmas Gift Market will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, at The Cedars Conference Center. Over 20 local and global charities will provide alternative gift options. Honor your friends and loved ones this holiday with a gift in their name to people in need of Hope. “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17).

An African dinner featuring Ethiopian and Ghanaian cuisine will be provided from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 6 in the Church Social Room. American cuisine alternatives will be available for those less adventurous. Donations will be used for medical development efforts in Haiti. Outdoor Love Feast — Everyone is welcome (including children) — today, 5:30 p.m. at the home of Bruce and Barbara Wagoner, 755 14th Avenue — Foot washing, meal, (hotdogs, chips, smores), singing, and communion. Please bring chairs and hotdog sticks.

Alexander Mack Men’s Fellowship is beginning a new season of fellowship, food, and program at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, in the Church Social Room. For the program, Jonathan Frye, biology professor at McPherson College, will present “Agrarianism and the Counter-Culture: A Short Review and Our Long-Term Prospects for Ecological, Agricultural, and Economic Sustainability.” Allan Ayella will be contacting those with email and Art Snell will be making phone contacts. You may also reserve your place by emailing Allan (ayellaa@mcpherson.edu) or calling Art (241-2427) by today. Season tickets are available today from committee members: Allan Ayella, Roger Black, David Fruth, Larry Gilbert, and Gerald Neher. Cost per ticket is $40 which includes the Christmas dinner. You may also purchase single tickets for $8 each.

The Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (KIPCOR) at Bethel College will show The Fight in the Fields¸ an award-winning documentary about César Chávez and the United Farm Workers Union, on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in Krehbiel Auditorium on the Bethel College campus, North Newton.

This fall will be an exciting time for our congregation since we will be celebrating the 125th anniversary of our church. Everyone who loves to sing is invited to join the Adult Choir for our first rehearsal which will be held from 7 – 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, in the Church Sanctuary. You are encouraged to come and share your musical talents. Angelus Ringers will also resume rehearsals at 8:15 p.m. on the 25th. – Winona Godfrey
