Dear Jerry,

Thank you for bringing some light into the dark problem of the recent evil in the world. You ask the guestions we all ask when things like this happen, but you don't stop there, you pesent positive ideas that make me realize that perhaps there some small thing I can do. I can start with prayer that those hurting will feel the concern and love of Christians.

I am currently in Chicago nearing the end of my long trip that included seeing two grandsons receive their phd degrees, one in Chicago and one at Berkeley, CA. I will be back in McPherson on May 27.

My prayers have been with the pastoral team as you move forward in the positive manner I sense.

What a lovely and meaningful service this morning and what a wonderful way to celebrate Pentecost. I shall always remember this beautifull service. Thank you so much to all who participated and demonstrated God's love and grace in so many ways. I felt truly blessed.

To the technical staff/volunteers: Worshipping at home, as I must do, I have been noticing for the past 3 weeks a problem with the amplification and the video systems.

The picture breaks up a number of times during the service. It doesn't last for more than 2-3 seconds but happens often enough to be distracting. I believe this is only on this channel; because following our service, I turn to channel 10 to watch another service and the problems with the picture and sound do not occurr again.

The problems with the sound are manifested in distortion anytime the choir is singing from the chancel or intruments are playing. It's a shattering and a kind of muffled sound, never clear. It did not happen when the women sang from the aisles this morning which made me wonder what kind of speaker system they were using, if any. The sound of the bells was clear, also.

The sound is not distorted when people are speaking, but it cuts in and out so that many words, often entire sentences, are not heard at all. This happens all throughout the service. As I noted above, these problems were first evident, I believe, 3 weeks ago. Hopefully this information may help you find the sources of these problems. I so appreciate the work of the technicians so that I can be a part of the service from my home.

Thanks to so many of you who responded when Herb was taken to the hospital last week. We especially want to thank Jan Hurst who accompanied Jeanne in the car as we followed the ambulance, Pastors Kathryn and Chris Whitacre who visited us at the hospital, Marla Ullom-Minnich who encouraged Herb to see the doctor "now," and so many of you who wrote cards and prayed on Herb's behalf. After having two stents inserted into his main artery, last week he was released from the Kansas Medical Center, and we have now traveled, with his doctor's blessing, to Pennsylvania, arriving safe and sound last night. He is feeling great and is happy to be alive. -- Herb and Jeanne Smith

Thanks, Chris, for your "good and inspirational" writing. As we look at and listen to our grandson--your son--I think you are passing these thoughts on to him AND to other people who will read this article. Sometimes it is hard to center on the positive when the world gets so "cock-eyed" with problems.
Thanks for setting an example.

This little note brings to mind Thornton Wilder's play, "Our Town," where the child Emily comes back to life from the dead and watches her family brush by, day after day, without noticing each other.
EMILY: “Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it?—every, every minute?”
STAGE MANAGER: "No. Saints and poets maybe...they do some.”
EMILY: “Oh, earth, you're too wonderful for anybody to realize you.”
