All of us can point to our mothers as the ones who have given us life. It is no wonder that many congregations speak of their “mother church” with similar fondness and respect. How has your church birthed new ministries or congregations? Pray for the Holy Spirit to embolden our witness for the gospel and ignite a desire for planting new communities of faith.

Youth around the Church of the Brethren will share in planning and leading worship in their congregations this week. Pray that their witness and testimony enrich our communities. Ask for God to reveal ways to companion these young people, bridging a gap that all too often pits one generation against another.

•CoB Mission and Ministry Board weekly prayer request:

Many of this weeks prayer gatherings (National Day of Prayer, May 3) will be filled with lofty statements and detailed petitions to God. What changes when we approach prayer as listening rather than speaking? Set aside time to listen for God. Begin with these words from Samuel: “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”
