Alexander Mack Men’s Fellowship is beginning a new season of fellowship, food, and program.
The year kicks off Thurs. Oct. 27 at 6:00 pm with LaVon Ediger, telling about a new program, ReUse It Center. The program’s Mission Statement, “As stewards of God’s earth, our ministry collects new and used building materials and sells them to the community, sharing God’s gifts, serving those in need, and saving earth’s resources.” The program recycles donated and used materials from overstocked or discontinued items, construction, remodeling, updating or building materials no longer needed. Buying the recycled materials provides funds to share with MCC and other areas of need in our community. Volunteers are working hard to get a building ready located at 1060 West Kansas.
Dr. Dan Lichty, will give a program on Thurs. Nov. 17 at 6:00 pm entitled “Zeng He’s voyage to America, 1421″. Zeng He was a Chinese admiral who was commissioned to lead a fleet of huge ships on a voyage of exploration. The ships were many times larger than the ships of Cristobol Colon. We will look at the evidence that they sailed east from China, exploring the west coast of South and North America. Their voyage left less evidence because on the whole, they were much more peaceful visitors than the Spanish and Portuguese. The explorers were more interested in discovery than in plundering the precious metals of the cultures they encountered. In the years of their absence from China, the Forbidden City burned down. The Chinese emperor took the burning as a sign from God that he should not be exploring the world and destroyed much of the evidence of the trip.
The annual Christmas Dinner will be Thurs. Dec. 15 6:00 pm. with music by the McPherson Arts Council Children’s Choir. Dinner by AMICS.
The program for Thurs. Jan. 19, 2012 at 6:00 pm. will be announced later.
Lois Grove, from Council Bluffs, Iowa and an employee with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) will tell about the agency’s work in times of disaster. Program date: Thurs. Feb. 16, at 6:00 pm.
The cookout for families and father-child will be held again this year on Thurs. March 15 at 6:00. This will be a chance for all families, young and older, to enjoy some family time in springtime.
