Call to Worship      Kerrick van Asselt

One:  The God of Love and Grace be with you.

All:  And also with you.

One:  No matter our differences, we are called together for worship and service.

All:  We are God’s co-workers in constructing God’s building.

One:  The foundation has been laid by the wise master-builder Jesus the Christ.

All:  Each one of us needs to pay attention to the way we build on it.

One:  Let us construct bridges between “us” and “them” and come together to worship the One who welcomes all.

All:  We welcome each other in the same way that Christ welcomes us.

           – Written by Amy Messler based on (1 Cor 3:9-11 CEB)

Call to Confession      Taylor Swartzendruber

One:

While the world continues to separate one from another, the call on God’s people is to “accept each other with love.” Together we can show the world that the love of Christ is more powerful than any hate or prejudice. May our assumptions of one another be put aside as we open our hearts to God during this time of confession.  Let us pray.

Unison Prayer of Confession:

God of Love, we confess that our hearts are more often filled with judgments than love. We want others to know we are Christians by our love, and yet it is so difficult to love those who are different from ourselves. Help us, we pray, to embrace every opportunity to be in relationship with one of your beloved children. May our love grow within this body of believers and beyond the walls of our worship space to reach those who feel unloved or unlovable.

Silence is kept

One:

Receive these words of assurance from Ephesians 2:14 (CEB)

“Christ has made peace between Jews and Gentiles, and he has united us by breaking down the wall of hatred that separated us.” The Christ whose peace created one people, is the bridge that unites “us” and “them” with love and respect and compassion.   – Written by Amy Messler
